Description
Follow this circuit with the help of a GPS or a road map to discover the history behind each of a series of crosses. The coordinates and locations are given in the document Coordonnées GPS croix chemin Pohénégamook.
Originally, crosses were erected to show possesion of a territory. Later, they were used as landmarks. Some were erected to mark the place where a future church would be built, as an offering of thanks for favours obtained, to ward off evil or even as a place of worship when the village church was too far away.
The complete history and origin of each cross is available in French on the website www.culturetemiscouata.ca.
While visiting the crosses, take the opportunity to stop at one of the three parish churches or the Notre-Dame chapel in order to immerse yourself in our religious heritage.
